There is something about baseball season getting underway that just makes it feel like summer is right around the corner. The longer days, with the warm, sunny evenings just make it so wonderful to get out and watch the game. My son Lucas just started playing t-ball this year (which is the cutest thing EVER), and he’s already hooked. So, on my bucket list for this spring/summer – to take him with me to cheer on the Ottawa Champions.
The Ottawa Champions are the capital’s professional baseball team, playing in the Can-Am League. They made it all the way to top in 2016, winning the Can-Am League Championship in only their second season.
This weekend is opening weekend for the Champions, and they have a jam packed line-up for the long weekend which includes non-stop family fun.
Friday’s game is at 7:05 pm against the Trois-Rivières Aigle, where Mayor Jim Watson will throw out the first pitch. Fans can also expect to see a hype video highlighting baseball’s history in Ottawa and introducing the team. And parents – it’s $5 beer night.
Saturday’s game is also at 7:05 pm against Trois-Rivières. The band Black Cherry will be performing by the main gates, and there will be face painters on hand. After the game stick around for a fireworks show!
On Sunday the game will take place at 1:35 pm, also against Trois-Rivières. Sunday is Family Day which will include a rock climbing wall, jump houses, face painters, and the kids can run the bases after the game. This just sounds like an amazing time.
On holiday Monday the Champions will play their final game of the weekend. This game starts at 1:35 pm and it’s against the New Jersey Jackals. Monday is Superhero Day. There will be superheroes in costume around the stadium, face painters for the kids and after the game the kids can run the bases.
The Champions play their home games at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park. To buy tickets visit the website HERE.
Hope to see you out at a game this season. PLAY BALL!
