Weekend Family Events for June 8-9

This weekend’s weather is (finally) looking sunny and warm, which is great news as there is SO much going on around town. It is going to be difficult to decide what to hit up this weekend with the kids. Good luck with your decision making! Here is my jam packed event listing for the weekend of June 8-9.

Saturday:

  • Minto Park Sale – Minto Park, 8:00 am – 2:00 pm (tables set up selling yard sale style in the park, plus entertainment and food)
  • Ottawa Central Park Neighbourhood Garage Sale – Central Park, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
  • Glabar Park Neighbourhood Garage Sale – Glabar Park neighbourhood wide sales plus tables set up in Kingsmere Park, 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • Tim Hortons Hockey Fest – Canadian Tire Centre, 8:00 am – 8:00 pm (4 on 4 world’s largest road hockey festival)
  • CHEO BBQ – Shefford Park, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (volleyball, ultimate tournament, 5 KM run and family zone with activities, crafts, and entertainment)
  • The Bouncy Castle Festival – Wesley Clover Parks, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (more than 19 bouncy castles, food trucks, maker mobile, princesses and more, general admission is $9.99, family pass for $37.99)
  • AVCA Annual Garage Sale – Alta Vista, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
  • Medieval Festival – Upper Canada Village, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm (medieval re-enactors, musicians, buskers, artisans, falconers, merchants + jousting Knights in shining armour)
  • Calypso Water Park Opening Weekend – 2015 Calypso St, Limoges, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (enjoy opening weekend with 35 fun water slides, a wave pool, kid-friendly area)
  • Barrhaven Baby Day – Royal Canadian Legion Barrhaven, 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm (free admission, swag bags, dozens of vendors)
  • Westfest 2019 – Tom Brown Arena and Park, 2:00 pm – 11:00 pm (musical entertainment, local food vendors, workshops and art education for kids and more)
  • The Wonderful World of Oz – Shenkman Arts Centre, 2:00 pm (This play is not the movie version, it is adapted from the original story and is perfect for all ages and families to enjoy)
  • Porchfest de Mississippi Mills – Downtown Almonte, 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm (Porchfest brings musicians to porches around town, each playing about an hour set.)
  • Volleyball Nations League – TD Place, 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm (Team Canada Men’s Volleyball takes on Germany at 7 pm, catch Serbia vs Australia at 4 pm, tickets get you into both games)

Sunday:

  • Tim Horton’s Hockey Fest – Canadian Tire Centre, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (world’s largest 4 on 4 street hockey tournament continues)
  • NOKIA Sunday Bikedays – Sir John A MacDonald Parkway, Colonel By Drive, Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway and Gatineau Park, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (closed down roads for cyclists, runners, walkers and more to enjoy)
  • Medieval Festival – Upper Canada Village, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm (medieval re-enactors, musicians, buskers, artisans, falconers, merchants + jousting Knights in shining armour on horseback )
  • Baby Mama Hustle Market – Horticulture Building, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm (free admission to this parent and tot pop up market, more than 40 vendors, nursing area, kids play space provided by My Gym)
  • Touch a Truck – Lincoln Fields, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm (wide variety of vehicles for your little ones to explore and many more activities that the whole family, put on by Mothercraft, $10 per person, under 1 year old free, cash only)
  • Volleyball Nations League – TD Place, 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm (Canadian Men’s National Volleyball Team takes on Serbia at 4 pm, Australia plays Germany at 1 pm)
  • Westfest 2019 – Tom Brown Arena and park, 2:00 pm – 11:00 pm (musical entertainment, local food vendors, workshops and art education for kids and more)

And if you and the kids are looking for a place to play and cool down, most of the splash pads around the city are now open. There are a dozen or so which will not be open this weekend as they have been closed for maintenance. To determine which ones will be open or not, you can visit the City of Ottawa website here.
