Weekend Family Events for June 29-30

School is out and summer has really arrived. Welcome to the long weekend! Have you made plans for Canada Day yet? If you haven’t, be sure to check out my guide to Ottawa’s best family events for July 1st here. Also a number of strawberry fields are now open for picking, check out my blog post here for some ideas of the best spots…but be sure to check ahead of going that they are in fact open. As for the rest of the weekend, find out what is happening below for June 29-30. Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!

Saturday:

  • Hands on History – Goulbourn Museum, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (the museum is partnering with the 100th Regiment of Foot to deliver an experience that allows visitors to stand in the shoes of a soldier from the War of 1812 and fire a Brown Bess musket. The cost to fire three rounds is $20 and is for ages 16 and up)
  • Celebrating Britannia – Britannia Park, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm (Ecology Ottawa is hosting a community celebration BBQ. It will be a FREE, family-friendly vegan & vegetarian barbecue with live music)
  • Rockin at Riverside – Riverside Park, Kemptville, 12:00 pm – 10:15 pm (come for a full line up of live music and a family bbq)
  • Canada Day Celebrations Barrhaven – Clarke Fields, Strandherd Drive, 12:00 pm – 10:30 pm (Homeniuk Midway rides and games)
  • Canada Day in Kanata – Walter Baker Park, 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm (midway and rides, $25 all you can ride)
  • Storytime at Rideau Hall – Rideau Hall, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm (free and fun activity where Frontier College’s volunteers provide books and other materials and hold a variety of different activities)
  • Canada Day Celebration – Ron Kolbus Centre, 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm (Hosted by Anita Vandenbeld everyone is welcome to a free fun-filled afternoon with multicultural music, dance performances and light refreshments.)
  • Canadian Sunset Ceremonies – 1 Sandridge Rd, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm (free admission, bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the show, performances from the RCMP/Ottawa Police Service Pipes, Drums and Dancers, the RCMP horse and Ottawa Valley Search, and of course the musical RCMP musical ride, plus a kids zone)
  • Shore Fishing Clinic – Remic Rapids, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm (free event, learn more about shore fishing. Participants of all levels of experience can take part. Fishing gear will be available for use, as well as life jackets.)

Sunday:

  • NOKIA Sunday Bikedays – Sir John A MacDonald Parkway, Sir George Etienne Parkway, Colonel By Drive, Sir George Etienne Parkway, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (enjoy car free cycling on Ottawa’s scenic parkways)
  • Canada Day in the Capital – Major’s Hill Park, 11:00 am – 10:00 pm (multitude of activities highlighting the richness of our communities await them: interactive artwork, creative and playful games, entertainment and acrobatics. )
  • Canada Day in Barrhaven – Clarke Fields, Strandherd Drive, 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm (midway and rides)
  • Canada Day in Kanata – Walter Baker Park, 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm (midway and rides, $25 all you can ride)
  • Lindenlea Community Centennial Celebration – Lindenlea Park, 2:15 pm – 10:00 pm (Lindenlea is turning 100, celebrate with Monkey Rock performance at 3:30 pm, mural unveiling, flamenco, live music)
