Weekend Family Events for July 20-21

I’m not sure what everyone has planned for this upcoming weekend, but if you own a pool…I’m jealous. It’s going to be a very hot and humid weekend, but don’t let that stop you from getting out and enjoying all the wonderful events around town…just be prepared for the heat! Here is my jam packed list of family friendly events for the weekend of July 20-21.

Saturday:

  • Canadian Stone Carving Festival – Sparks Street, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (professional carvers, artisans and enthusiasts turn blocks of limestone into one-of-a-kind works with the theme being comic book heroes and tales and legends of Canada)
  • Almonte Fair – 195 Water St, Almonte, 9:00 am – 10:00 pm ( pay one price admission of $20.00 which includes the midway, the shows and all the entertainment)
  • 2019 Ottawa Lebanese Festival – St Elias Cathedral, 11:00 am – 11:00 pm (marvelous food, Middle Eastern entertainment and heritage)
  • Capital Ukrainian Festival – 952 Green Valley Crescent, 11:00 am – 11:00 pm (singing, dancing, live music, Ukrainian food and beer garden, marketplace, children’s activities)
  • Canada’s Parks Day – all Ontario Provincial Parks, all day (parks across the province are offering free use of the parks plus events and activities)
  • A Bridge Through Time: Music and Fashion Outdoor Festival – Billings Bridge Shopping Centre, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm (all day music, BBQ, shopping and fun! 100% family friendly.)
  • Summer Family Mornings – National Arts Centre, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (free activities, games, musical guests and more, for children of all ages.)
  • Mammoth Used Book Sale – 100 Tallwood Drive, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (explore hundreds of used books at great prices as low as $1. )
  • 50th Anniversary Lunar Celebration – Museum of Nature, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (meet museum scientists and learn about meteorites and outer space. See a real moon rock and join a live chat with a real astronaut, price included with museum admission.)
  • Carleton Place Pride Festival 2019 – Junction Park, Carleton Place, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm (fun for the whole family, local vendors, kids zone, dance party, drag queens)
  • Wienerpalooza Ottawa – Carlington Park, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm (winer dog races, games, costumes, BBQ, shopping, auction)
  • Stewart Park Festival – Perth, 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm (live musical acts all day long, food, marketplace, workshops, kids area and more)
  • Storytime at Rideau Hall – Rideau Hall, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm (Frontier College’s volunteers welcome children and their families and provide books and other materials and hold a variety of different activities.)
  • Fortissimo: Beating Retreat Ceremony – Parliament Hill, 7:00 pm (a musical and military spectacular featuring a military concert and sunset ceremony)
  • Shakespeare in the Park: Romeo and Juliet – Trend Arlington Park, 7:00 pm (by donations outdoor production of Shakespeare’s tragedy, bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy)
  • Capital Pop-Up Cinema: Napoleon Dynamite – Parkdale Park, 8:30 pm (bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a free, outdoor showing of Napoleon Dynamite)

Sunday:

  • NOKIA Sunday Bikedays – various parkways through Ottawa and Gatineau Park, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (blocked off roadways where bikers can enjoy without cars
  • Almonte Fair – 195 Water St, Almonte, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm ( pay one price admission of $20.00 which includes the midway, the shows and all the entertainment)
  • The Zoo Crew July Drop In Osgoode – 5721 Osgoode Main St, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (Open Drop in for all ages to come and hang out with the animals. 40 mins shows each hour with loose time in between. $5 per person)
  • Ice Cream Festival – Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm (learn how ice cream is made, try to make ice cream and sample it, also performances by Capital Jumpers, a dance party with DJ Rico, and a photo booth and a kids’ corner with crafts and games)
  • 2019 Ottawa Kombucha Festival – Horticulture Building, Lansdowne, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (local kombucha for you to try, homemade kombucha workshops, fermentation seminars, music, and healthy food)
  • All Aboard Sundays – Cumberland Village Heritage Museum, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm (Join the Ottawa Valley Live Steamers and Model Engineers at the museum. Experience model steam trains and learn about railway operation and history.)

  • Princess Story Time and Meet and Greet – Indigo Barrhaven, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm (special story-time with Polynesian Princess Moana. Everyone welcome. No registration required. )
  • Zumba on the Hill – Parliament Hill, 4:00 pm (free, all ages, outdoor Zumba class)
