It is always sad to see summer winding down. However, I do love all of the local fairs that take place towards the end of the summer and into fall. The Capital Fair kicks off this week right here in Ottawa, and after that there isn’t a weekend without a nearby fair worth checking out. So, use this guide to mark your calendars!
August 16-25
Fairgrounds at Rideau Carleton Raceway Casino
This Ottawa Fair is ten fabulous days long with a midway, live horse racing, a kids tent, demolition derby, monster truck show, buffet, petting zoo and pony rides and MORE! For more information visit the Capital Fair’s website HERE.
August 23-25th
Chesterville Fairgrounds at the corner of County Rd 43 and Queen St
The Chesterville Fair has a pay one price admission that includes the midway. It’s $15, but kids 5 and under are free. You can enjoy kids zone tent and shows, truck pull, demolition derby, live music, agriculture shows and food. For more information visit their website HERE.
August 30 – September 2nd
50 Arthur St, Perth
The Perth Fair has horse, cattle and goat shows, live entertainment, a demolition derby, a cowboy obstacle race, a pet show, a antique tractor pull and rides & games.
Admission for adults is $10, except for on Saturday when it is $12, children 7 years old and up are $4, while children younger than 7 are free. For more information visit the website HERE.
September 4 – 9th
115 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Renfrew
The Renfrew fair is an exciting five days long, with tons to do. There are horse shows, livestock events and exhibits, rides and games, a demolition derby, some great food and live entertainment.
The admission prices included unlimited use of the midway (this is new!): $20 for adults and children, but kids 3 and under are free, but if they want to ride the rides you must pay admission for them too. For more information you can check out their website HERE.
September 5 – 8th
1076 Concessions St, Russell (20 mins east of Ottawa)
The Russell Fair is a great time complete with acrobatic shows, classic car and auto show, demolition derby, live musical entertainment, midway rides and games ($30 ride all day bracelets), pancake breakfast, tractor and truck pull, puppet shows, and face painting.
Admission prices are as follows:
Adults – 13 & over $10 ($12 on Saturday)
Children – 7 to 12 $ 5
Children – under 7 Free

Richmond, Ontario
The Richmond Fair is a lot of fun and a short drive from Ottawa’s west end. The fair offers a lot of agricultural events but also so much else like a demolition derby, live music shows, aerial shows, rock climbing, reptile shows, helicopter rides, kids shows, and a midway with rides and games.

September 26 – 29th
Carp Road, Carp
It’s known as “the best little fair in Canada”and it’s a big favourite with my family. We have attended for the past five years, and always have a great time. At the Carp Fair you will find a petting zoo, pony rides, horse shows, super dog shows, vendors, great food, and midway rides and games.
Thursday gate admission is by donation, and all rides are $2 that day.
If you buy advance admission, you save a few dollars… adults – $12, children ages 6-12 – $6, kids 5 and under are free.

October 3rd – 6th
2821 8th Line Road, Metcalfe
This fall tradition is held annually in the Village of Metcalfe. There are some interesting events included like a baby show. You can enter your cute baby to win prizes! There is also a demolition derby, horse pull, fiddling and step dancing, live music, children’s entertainment in the Kidzland Tent, classic car show, food and midway games and rides.
