Weekend Family Events for November 9-10

What a change a week or two makes. It really feels like we are into winter now! This week I posted a blog on all the area’s Santa Claus parades that are coming up very quickly…they start next weekend! As for this weekend, here is a list of what’s going on for families around Ottawa for November 9-10.

Saturday:

  • First Ever Butter Tart Festival and Contest – Petawawa Civic Centre, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (free admission to the public, come watch the competition, sample and buy some delicious butter tarts)
  • St. Helen’s Old Fashioned Christmas Bazaar – St. Helen’s Anglican Church, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (Delicious home baking – apple pies made on site!, Christmas cakes, rum balls, meat pies, butter tarts, bread, cookies and other decadent treats, homemade ornaments, cafe, and lots to shop)
  • Ottawa Pet Expo – EY Centre, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (you can bring your pets. Animals can try on the newest designer outfits, taste the best nutritional meals, meet their new favorite groomers, and more! Buy innovative toys, meet breeders to answer your questions, and find your new best friends from animal rescue groups. )
  • Almonte Farmer’s Market Harvest – Almonte Community Centre, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (Stock up on your favourite tasty treats and fine crafts. Veggies, bread, baking, preserves, local meat, pottery, art and woodwork.)
  • Snowflake Bazaar – St.James Anglican Carleton Place, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (Homemade baked goods, deli items & preserves. Jewellery, books, attic treasures, knitting, luncheon and more)
  • Articulture Weekend – Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm (for art lovers young and old. There is a special watercolour workshop (registration required). Check out the original works from local artists Andrew King and Elaine Goble. You can also meet the artists themselves, who will be on site on Sunday to answer your questions. There will be a special craft just for kids)
  • A Time to Remember – Canada Aviation and Space Museum, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (deepen your family’s understanding of Canada’s wartime history through a kids tour and special activities ahead of Remembrance Day)
  • Kanata Nordic Ski Swap – Nepean Sailing Club, 10:30 am – 1:00 pm (Sell your used ski equipment, buy used gear for your fast-growing kids or look to buy brand new gear from our sponsors Fresh Air and Kundstadt Sports)
  • Ottawa Comiccon Holiday Edition – EY Centre, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (free admission, comic books, collectibles, cosplay, and holiday shopping)
  • STEAM fair 2019 – Confederation Education Centre, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm (A fun-filled day exploring science, tech, engineering, arts and math, tickets are $5)
  • Cinderella – Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre, 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm (Come and see the Lakeside Players’ 28th traditional British Pantomime, for all ages)
  • Ottawa Pops Orchestra: Harry’s Musical World – Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe, 2:30 pm (wonderful musical performance of the music from the Harry Potter movies…I took the kids to this last year, it was excellent!)
  • Virtual Poppy Drop – Parliament Hill, nightly (watch the image of poppies falling be projected on Centre Block in honour of Remembrance Day)

Sunday:

  • The Zoo Crew November Drop-In – 5721 Osgoode Main St, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm (Open Drop in – all ages – come and hang out with the animals. 40 mins shows each hour with loose time in between. $5 entry)
  • Ottawa Pet Expo – EY Centre, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (you can bring your pets.   • A Time to Remember – Canada Aviation and Space Museum, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm (deepen your family’s understanding of Canada’s wartime history through a kids tour and special activities ahead of Remembrance Day)
  • French Storytime – Indigo Barrhaven, 10:30 am – 11:30 am (Come join us and Hélène Fortin for some French story time fun! No registration required. All welcome)
